UNE Pre-Dental Club meets bi-weekly via Zoom
Fall Semester: Wednesdays from 7-8 pm
Goals: Recruit new members, Create an Undergrad Peer Mentor Program
9/16- Introduction Meeting: Introduction PowerPoint of the Club, Presentation by James Gaffney about how to become a dental applicant/ different tracks to dental school.
9/30– Interview Tips by UNE CDM: Presentation by UNE dental students discussing interviewing tips and their personal interview experiences.
10/7- Dalhousie University Information Session: Event hosted by the Dalhousie Admissions.
10/14- Undergrad Mentor Pairing: Event where Pre-Dental first years/sophomores will match with juniors/seniors. Mentors will serve as a resource to their mentees, providing encouragement and support to their journey to a dental career.
10/17- Interview Bootcamp: Event hosted by the Pre-Dental Committee Co-chairs where UNE dental students will be conducting mock interviews with registered pre-dental students.
10/28- Talk to D1 UNE Graduates: A few UNE dental students (Nolan Laakso, Elise Grabowski, Jasmine Syed, Suki Ullrich, Michael Wilkes) will host a Q&A about dental school life and explains the things they did in UNE undergrad to make them stand out as an applicant.
11/11- “Talk to Your Pre-Dental Officers” Drop-in hours: Talk to the club’s officers and ask them any questions and concerns you may have this semester: How do I apply to be an officer? How do I find internships and shadowing within the community? What dental schools are close by? What scholarships can I apply to for dental school? What are the best DAT resources?
Spring Semester: Tuesdays from 7-8pm
Goals: Pre-Dental apparel, DAT material giveaway, Hand-on activities
(2/2)– CDM Mentor Mentee Mixer Social: Event is hosted by the UNE CDM Pre-Dental Committee. Students will be paired with a dental student, who will serve as their mentor.
(3/2) – Stop the Bleed Workshop: A former Army dentist and current medical recruiter will present about the Health Professions Scholarship Program and provide instruction about how to stop bleeding.
(3/16)- DAT Day: Event where the officers present about the DAT and types of studying resources. Members will participate in DAT Jeopardy and the winner will receive a free DAT prep material.
(4/6)- Instructed Tooth Drawing: Event where UNE dental students Nolan Laakso and Elise Grabowski lead club member in sketching anatomically correct teeth and discuss developing hand skills.
(4/20)- Talk to Local Dentists: Q&A session with local practicing general dentists, including Dr. Reagan and Dr. Roy from Saco River Dentistry in Buxton, ME.
